The Subsidies and Service Unit is the central point of contact of the State of Styria for the independent art and culture scene. We provide consulting to artists and art and cultural initiatives in matters of financing art and cultural projects and are the point of contact in all matters concerning funding and subsidies. Financial support from the public purse is provided to the design, development, production and implementation of a wide variety of cultural and artistic projects. These initiatives should spark the interest of people and be accessible to the general public. A prerequisite in all of this is a concrete reference to Styria or to the Styrian artistic and cultural scene."
What is eligible for funding?
The Cultural Department of the State of Styria provides funding for the design, development, production and implementation of a wide variety of cultural and artistic projects. These initiatives should spark the interest of people and be accessible to the general public. A prerequisite in all of this is a concrete reference to Styria or to the Styrian artistic and cultural scene.
The areas that are eligible for financial support are defined by law:
- Visual arts, new media and architectural design
- Performing Arts
- Film
- Literature
- Music, music theatre and sound art
The funding entity focuses on the sustainable further development of contemporary art and contemporary culture in a regional, national and international context in all funding areas. Of course, this also includes digital art forms, cross-disciplinary and theoretical ideas and concepts, ideas of artistic exploration and concepts/ideas that communicate art and culture.
Who can apply for funding?
Natural persons (e.g. artists) and legal persons (clubs, associations, companies, etc.) can apply for funding.
How to apply for funding:
Funding applications can only be submitted in writing using the online form provided for this purpose.
When to apply for funding:
The application shall in any case be submitted before the project is implemented. It is not possible to apply for funding for projects that have already been completed ("subsequent funding"). Funding applications for projects that span an entire calendar year (annual activity, annual programme) shall be submitted by the last submission date of the previous year at the latest. Applications for project funding may be submitted at any time.
How long does it take to get a funding decision?
The processing of applications begins on specific dates (submission dates) and takes 14 weeks. We recommend submitting applications six to twelve months before implementing a project to make reliable planning possible for both parties (for you and for us).
Multi-annual funding agreements with a term of three years and focus programmes (also referred to as CALLS) are offered separately. The submission deadlines specified in the respective tender shall apply.
How will I be notified if my project will be funded?
We will inform you in writing of our decision on your funding application. Phone enquiries about the processing status will not be answered. We will contact you if we have any questions about your funding application or need additional documents.
Who are my points of contact?
Please note that we will only process complete and correct applications. Please contact us in good time before submitting your application, so that we can clarify together whether all documents required are complete.
